Lockyer: Microsoft Settlement Doesn’t Go Far Enough

Sponsored by:

California Attorney General Bill Lockyer is rejecting the proposed antitrust settlement with Microsoft.

He says the U-S Justice Department´s plan doesn´t go far enough to ensure long-term fair competition for Microsoft´s competitors and consumers.

Lockyer says he remains open to settlement negotiations. However, Microsoft says the company is through negotiating and is willing to continue its court fight with the remaining states.

Lockyer, whose state is home to Silicon Valley and many of Microsoft fiercest competitors, says stronger controls are needed to protect California businesses and consumers.

Six states are expressing support for the proposed settlement, and at least six others are negotiating additional concessions with the company.
