BART Employees Issue 72-hour Strike Notice

Sponsored by:

BART´s largest workers´ unions have issued a 72-hour strike notice. Union rules requires such notice
before a strike. Unions say they´ll head for the picket lines if management doesn´t present them with an improved wage and benefits package.

BART
directors have presented a proposal to the unions offering a wage and benefits increase of about 20 percent over the next four years. Union members have said
that´s not enough to keep them off the picket lines and have presented BART directors with a counteroffer. BART spokesman Mike Healy says management is
prepared to negotiate through the long weekend.

BART commuters have already begun looking for alternative transportation, in case of a strike.
