Sierra Club Behind Stopping Development

Sponsored by:

Clean-air advocates backed by the Sierra Club are filing a lawsuit to block Fresno´s new 23-year growth plan. They

say it´s too car-dependent in one of the nation´s most polluted air basins.

A Fresno-based group, Medical Advocates for Healthy Air, maintains the plan pays too little attention to options such as light rail and bicycle trails. The lawsuit also seeks to temporarily stop new housing development in Fresno. City officials say they are disappointed, and want the medical group to work with the city instead of suing it.

San Joaquin Valley air quality officials blame vehicles for nearly two-thirds of the region´s air pollution.
