Internet Group Warns Parents Of Chat Rooms

Children and parents are being advised to be extra cautious while using the Internet in the wake of the death of an Arkansas girl who was killed by a man she met in an online chat room.

That’s the message being stressed today by a Carlsbad group called I-Safe America. The Internet safety organization says children should never give out identifying information, such as their address, school name or phone number, in a chat room.

They should also be aware that people might try to entice children by offering free gifts. And I-Safe America advises that children should not meet in person with someone they’ve met over the Internet. The advice follows the death of 13-year-old Kacie Rene Woody.

Police say the girl was abducted and slain last week by a La Mesa man who had posed as a teenager while writing to her over the Internet. The man, 47-year-old David Fuller, apparently shot himself after killing the girl.
