Damage Assessment Tour This Morning

“We had a lot of flooding.”

That´s an under statement by Sonora city Fire Chief Mike Barrows as he explains what happened late last night.

A flash flood slammed into the Sonora area around 8:30 last night, causing torrents of mud, water and debris to rush into downtown Sonora.

Non-stop pounding rain Friday evening was more than what city storm drains could carry. Water raced – a foot-deep in some places – down most main city streets. Mono Way, Greenley Road and South Washington became rivers,

As of around midnight last night Barrows and emergency crews still hadn´t got everywhere affected by the water and mud.

“I have not gone through and done an entire damage assessment,” Barrows said last night. “I have units all over the city that are doing damage assessment right now.”

Barrows says at 9 this morning a team will head to area affected by the flash flood to see what damaged was done last night.
