County´s Pot Grow Seizures State Top List

More marijuana plants were seized by drug agents in Tuolumne County this year than in all but three other California counties.

State Attorney General Bill Lockyer in Fresno this afternoon, briefed law enforcement officials, including Tuolumne County Sheriff department personnel, on the results of the 2002 Campaign Against Marijuana Planting or “CAMP” program.

The CAMP program, under the California Department of Justice, assists local law enforcement to locate and remove large outdoor marijuana operations in remote forested areas.

More than 32,000 pot plants were seized in Tuolumne County, ranking it only behind Santa Barbara, Sonoma and Mendocino counties.

Lockyer says about a third of all plants seized by CAMP during the 2002 growing season were taken in Central Valley Counties.
