Feinstein Says Protecting Lake Tahoe Critical

Sponsored by:

California Senator Dianne Feinstein says the first half of a one billion dollar plan to protect Lake Tahoe is off to a good start. Nearly half of the money has been appropriated from federal, state, local and private sources in the effort to combat pollution of the alpine lake.

Feinstein and Nevada Senator Harry Reid were the hosts today at a conference at a ski resort overlooking Lake Tahoe. The meeting is to assess the latest scientific data gathered since former President Clinton pledged support in 1997 for a ten-year plan to reverse the loss of clarity of the azure lake.

Senator Feinstein said today progress on the plan over the next five years is critical. She remains concerned that if efforts do not proceed, Lake Tahoe will continue to lose its world-renowned clarity.
