Judge Imposes Dock Worker “truce”

Sponsored by:

A federal judge has approved President Bush´s request to reopen West Coast ports.

That ends a ten-day lockout of the dockworkers that has cost the fragile economy one to two billion dollars a day. The federal judge in San Francisco has agreed to impose an 80-day cooling-off period in the dispute under the Taft-Hartley Act.

The court-ordered truce will keep the ports open during the crucial holiday season, when retailers rely on imported goods to stock their shelves.
