Threat Eased In Topaz Fire

An 8600-acre forest fire near Lake Topaz on the California-Nevada border is giving a break to homeowners. Fire officials say the blaze moved away from two hundred and fifty homes yesterday. A spokesman says the fire shifted uphill toward an uninhabited area.
Authorities have now reopened Highway 395, which had been closed at Bridgeport. 89 is still closed over Monitor pass.
