Holiday Traffic Arrest, Deaths Up Statewide

Sponsored by:

The California Highway Patrol says 15 people died in traffic accidents in the state during the first 36 hours of

the long July Fourth holiday weekend. Ten of the 13 people killed weren´t wearing seat belts, and CHP says that´s alarming.

During the 36-hour period from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. today, the CHP said that statewide, 730 arrests were made for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

The CHP did not provide a comparison with traffic deaths of the July Fourth period last year, saying days of the week involved were not comparable.

Tom Wills with the Sonora area CHP says a good way to avoid accidents is by being patient with the holiday crowds visiting the mother lode and not to be in such a rush to get to your destination.
