Golden Gate Bridge Budget

Sponsored by:

The managers of the Golden Gate Bridge say a budget shortage is threatening to keep workers from completing a seismic retrofit on schedule.

Bridge manager Kary Witt says the district is 165 million dollars short of what´s needed to finish the project. He says the bridge already has issued a hiring freeze and other steps to scrimp on costs to get through the year.

Witt says the Bay Area congressional delegation also is working to secure more funding. Witt says the next big earthquake could damage the bridge, and wants to make sure it is protected beforehand.
