Bortin Will Attempt To Lower Bail

Sponsored by:

Former Symbionese Liberation Army member Michael Bortin will ask a judge tomorrow to set bail for his release on murder charges at 500 thousand dollars. This is despite the prosecution´s protests that bail be set at one million dollars in order to be consistent with co defendants Emily Montague and Bill Harris.

Attorneys for Bortin argue that the lower bail amount is appropriate because he is less affluent than his former SLA colleagues. Bortin, Harris and Montague are among five people charged with the murder of Myrna Opsahl, who walked into a robbery at a Carmichael bank in 1975. She was killed by a gun shot allegedly fired by Montague.

James Kilgore and Sara Jane Olson are also alleged to have been part of the incident.
