In sports, the Oakland A´s take on the Anaheim Angels again in Oakland tonight. Hear all the action on AM 1450, KVML starting at 7:05 p.m.

Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer and Erik Hiljus pitched seven strong innings in Oakland´s 4-to-2 victory over the Angels yesterday. Terrence Long and and Jeremy Giambi also homered for the A´s, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Scott Spiezio homered for the Angels, who lost their second straight.

San Francisco Giants are at Houston tonight.

Justin Leonard shot a 7-under-par 64 this morning to move into the clubhouse lead at the PGA´s WorldCom Classic at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He´s 11-under after 36 holes. First-round leader Davis Love III, who shot a 62 yesterday, is early in his second round.

The second round of the LPGA Longs Drugs Challenge is being played in Lincoln, California. Sara Sanders and Cristie Kerr teed off sharing a three-stroke lead.

The WNBA draft tipped off this morning in New Jersey. Four of the first six players selected were from NCAA champion Connecticut. The Seattle Storm made UConn´s Sue Bird the first selection.

All-America forward Drew Gooden of Kansas has said he´ll announce today whether he´s skipping his final year of college basketball and entering the NBA draft. Gooden was the leading scorer and rebounder in the Big 12 this past season.

Former baseball player Darryl Strawberry has admitted violating his probation rules a sixth time. He´s told a court in Tampa, Florida, that he´s willing to serve prison time if those are the consequences of his actions. Strawberry had fought previous attempts by the state to send him to prison. His sentencing is set for April 29th.

Allen Iverson practiced with the Philadelphia 76ers today for the first time since he injured his left hand nearly a month ago, but the practice did not include contact drills.

A doctor´s examination in Boston tomorrow could determine whether Iverson plays in Philadelphia´s opening game of the NBA playoffs on Sunday.

NASCAR spends its weekend on the 2 2/3-mile tri-oval at Talladega, Alabama. That means restrictor-plate racing to limit speeds, something the drivers generally don´t like, because it usually generates nerve-racking, bunched-up racing.

There was an 18-car wreck at the end of the race the last time the Winston Cup cars were at Talladega. And there was an 18-car wreck in the middle of February´s race at Daytona, the only other track with restrictor-plate requirements.

Sunday´s race is the Aaron´s 499.

The Indy Racing League is racing for the first time at Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania this weekend. The Firestone Indy 225 is Sunday. There´s practice today and qualifying tomorrow.
