Notorious Killer In Hospital

Sponsored by:

A convicted mass killer is in stable condition today after prison officers found him unconscious in his cell earlier this week in Corcoran.

The state department of corrections says Juan Corona was placed on a respirator in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital on Tuesday.

The farm labor contractor was convicted in 1973 for the murders of 25 farm workers. The workers´ bodies were found hacked and slashed in shallow graves near Yuba City in 1971.

The heads were chopped open on all but one of the bodies. A search of Corona´s house turned up a machete with an 18-inch blade and a double-bladed ax.

At the time, it was the largest mass-murder case in U-S history.
