Mountain Springs Developers submitted their community plan to the county Friday.

This begins the submittal process for the residential community development near the Mountain Springs Golf course off Lime Kiln Road in Sonora.

Mountain Springs Project Manager Ron Kopf says the latest plan for the controversial development now calls for about half the homes of the original plan submitted in 1997.

The County General Plan allows for 1,122 homes in the area. The original Mountain Springs plan called for 2,078 homes. Kopf says the county approved 1,500 homes. According to the developer, that´s ends up being less than one home per acre overall density. “Right now we´re showing780 market rate homes and 117 affordable homes,” Kopf explained. They have also included 236 acres of open space in the developments, which Kopf says equals about 22 percent of the total develpoment.

The community plan calls for different types of housing, from a “moderate level of affordable housing, some multi-family units, duplexes , single family and custom homes, their information read.

Kopf says continued public input will be part of the on-going application process.
