TUD Candidates Debate Again

Sponsored by:

Another debate last night. Four of the five Tuolumne Utilities District candidates faced-off at the Memorial Hall in Tuolumne City.

The event was co-sponsored by the Tuolumne County Farm Bureau, The Economic Development Company of Tuolumne County and the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians.

Kevin Day with the tribe was pleased with the turnout last night. “Basically we thought it would be nice to bring the candidates to the Tuolumne City area,” Day said. “The water issue is real important to Tuolumne and a lot of the folks here don´t ever get a chance to go down the hill. We thought it would be nice to entertain something here.”

Day estimated about 85 people came to listen to the candidates during the evening. TUD board incumbent Gary Walter was not present at the forum Thursday night.

Day feels the tribe´s relationship with the Tuolumne Utilities District is important. “We´re hoping they will work with us and the have been working with us a bit,” Day said, “just like the Forest Service and the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors on a government to government relationship.”

The TUD board´s two incumbents and three challengers will come together for another forum Tuesday afternoon, October 28, broadcast live on AM 1450 KVML. from their Sonora studios.
