Test Scores Strong Under New Admissions System

Sponsored by:

University of California faculty say students admitted under UC´s new admissions system continue to post strong test scores and grades. A new comprehensive approach looks at applicants´ personal challenges as well as their academic records.

When the new system was adopted two years ago, critics predicted the comprehensive review would result in lower academic standards.

But, faculty have found that students admitted under the new system have the same or slightly higher scores and grades than students admitted under the old system.

Faculty also found that UC is enrolling the same proportion of high-achieving students as it did before comprehensive review.

The majority of high-achieving applicants denied entrance to Berkeley and UCLA went on to enroll at another UC campus.
