Environmental Groups Back Bustamante
Three major environmental groups have endorsed Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante as the replacement candidate in California´s recall election.
Sierra Club California, the California League of Conservation Voters and Vote the Coast says Bustamante has a proven record of protecting the state´s air, water and coast.
The endorsement is a significant boost in a state where environmental issues rank high among voter concerns.
The three prominent organizations had previously announced their opposition the recall. The Sierra Club´s Bill Magavern now says they still oppose the recall, but wanted to give voters guidance on the second question on the ballot.
According to the latest Field Poll, Bustamante is the leading candidate to replace Governor Davis in the October 7 election.
