Democrats Nervous About Davis

Sponsored by:

California Democrats remain nervous about putting all their eggs in a “gray” basket. A Gray Davis basket, that is.

17 of the state’s 25 Democratic state senators met yesterday but didn’t decide whether to put an alternate Democratic candidate on the October 7 recall ballot. Democratic leaders had decided to keep other Democrats off the ballot, hoping the Republican vote would be divided among many candidates.

Support for that strategy has weakened.

Lawyers for Davis yesterday asked the California Supreme Court to delay the election to March, and to allow Davis´ name to be on the ballot.

As for the Governor, he tells reporters he’s going to concentrate on his duties, whether he has two months left in office or the rest of his four year term.
