Davis Wants Recall Delayed Until March

Sponsored by:

Governor Davis will ask California´s Supreme Court to delay the October 7 recall election until March. He´s filing a lawsuit today.

Attorneys for the Davis committee “Californians Against the Costly Recall” are also planning to ask the state´s high court to put Davis´ name on the ballot in the list of replacements. Davis´ lawyers argue that leaving his name off the ballot would disenfranchise voters who support him.

The attorneys are also saying the October election date would disenfranchise voters because counties would not have enough time to prepare. They claim counties would have to use outdated punch-card machines because new voting systems aren´t ready.

Attorney Michael Kahn says, “we want the fairest possible election, and we want the most voters who can possibly have participation in the election to participate.”

Recall supporters say the claims in the suit have “zero validity.”
