Don Pedro “Teak Surfing” Leads To Injuries

Sponsored by:

Two teenagers were injured and a boater cited Sunday afternoon on Lake Don Pedro after “teak surfing” from the back of a moving ski boat.

Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department boat patrol deputies report carbon-monoxide poisoning is to blame for the illness of a 16-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. They were taken to Sonora Community Hospital for treatment.

The 20-year-old ski boat driver was cited for several boating violations.

Teak surfing – where boaters attempt to body surf by hanging onto the back of moving boat – has resulted in recent deaths and injuries and is illegal in California.
