Forest Supervisor Wants More Thinning

Sponsored by:

New Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Tom Quinn agrees there is a need to reduce the amount of excess materials in the forest, especially in the urban wildland interface areas of the forest where a wildfire could have devastating results.

“We need to get more material out of the woods. We need to get these forests into a thinned condition and we need to create a safer environment,” Quinn said, “particularly as more and more people move up to these areas. That´s going to become more and more important.”

Quinn said he hopes that the Forest Service is able to increase the amount of material thinned, especially in those key areas. “I would like to see us become aggressive in urban interface areas.”

Quinn will be this weekend´s guest on Mother Lode Views public affairs radio program. The program airs three times during Sunday morning: 8 a.m. on 92.7 KZSQ FM, 9:30 a.m. on AM 1450 KVML and 10 a.m. on KKBN 93.5 FM.
