Break In The Weather

The Mother Lode enjoyed a respite from a predicted Friday of clouds, rain, thunderstorms and high winds.

The first in a series of late winter storms set to arrive Thursday night didn´t come close to meeting forecaster´s predictions. Clouds cleared away above the Mother Lode by late morning, opening to bright blue skies and scattered clouds.

But the break is not expected to last. Forecasters say a much stronger storm is expected tonight into tomorrow. By mid-afternoon, wind began to pick-up with gusts in the downtown Sonora are clocked between 13- and 18-miles-per-hour.

Wind and rain should arrive by late afternoon early evening, with overnight low temperatures in the mid 40s to lower 50s. Winds to 35 miles per hour in some upper elevations.

A winter storm warning will go back into effect tonight with up to three feet of snow likely at the higher elevations by tomorrow.
