Man Jumps From Golden Gate Bridge

Sponsored by:

A man killed after he jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge Wednesday was not an anti-war protester, according to authorities. Reports today have said that the man who jumped from the bridge around 11 a.m. was trying to hang an anti-war banner.

But authorities from the Golden Gate Bridge District and the California Highway Patrol say the man did not have a banner. Instead, they say, he was committing suicide. There were also reports that the man was climbing the north tower of the bridge. Bridge spokeswoman Mary Currie says those reports are untrue.

CHP Sergeant Wayne Zeise says the man was wearing a T-shirt that had a picture on it, and that might have confused some people into thinking he was a protester. The man´s identity has not been released.
