Invasive Pests Cost State Agriculture Millions

Sponsored by:

Farmers say invading weeds are damaging the state´s native species and crops. They want to know why the government isn´t doing more to fight the problem.

California Farm Bureau president Bill Pauli told a congressional hearing in Washington D.C. yesterday invasive weeds migrate onto farms and ranches from nearby government-owned land. Pauli says legislation is in the early stages, but so far, full support is lacking.

He called on Congress to change rules so government agencies act as better neighbors. Damage and lost due to various invasive species cost state agriculture more than $130 million a year say the farm bureau.
