Search Continues For Boy Swept Down River

Sponsored by:

A Mother´s Day outing in Sequoia National Park turned to tragedy when an 11-year-old boy slipped on a rock and tumbled into the icy Kaweah River. The child last was seen being swept downstream yesterday afternoon. Searchers will resume hunting for the youngster this morning at 8 a.m.

Dozens of volunteers, rangers and Tulare County Sheriff´s Search and Rescue crews gave up the hunt last night after sunset. Officials say the boy and a friend were crossing the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River during a family picnic near Hospital Rock. They got ahead of the group and the boy fell while hopping across the water on rocks.
