U.C. Regents Against Banning Racial Stats Collection

Sponsored by:

University of California regents have gone against a fellow member, opposing Ward Connerly´s state campaign to ban the collection of racial statistics. U.C. President Richard Atkinson introduced a measure opposing the initiative on the grounds that it would interfere with university research.

The board´s education and finance committee today voted overwhelmingly to recommend that the full board come out against Connerly´s campaign. The full board is expected to take up the issue later today.

Connerly led successful efforts to block the use of race in U.C. admissions and dismantle many affirmative action programs in California. His new initiative goes before voters next March.
