Californians Hit the Highway This Holiday

Sponsored by:

It doesn´t appear fears of terrorism and a sagging economy are discouraging Californians from hitting the road this holiday weekend.

More than 4.8 million Californians are expected to take trips his Memorial Day weekend and most of them will be driving. That´s a drop of less than one percent from last year.

Drivers will pay about 25 cents per gallon more for gas than they did they did a year ago, although prices have been coming down over the past few weeks. According to the Automobile Club of Southern California, the state´s average gas price as of May 20th was $1.86 a gallon. That´s down from $2.09 a month ago.

The Auto Club says the most popular destination for Northern California residents is Disneyland. For those in the south, it´s Las Vegas.
