Citations Against San Francisco War Protestors Dismissed

Sponsored by:

Citations against 33 war protesters have been dropped after San Francisco police failed to provide reports to back up the allegations.

Police arrested nearly 3,000 people during the first days of the war in Iraq. Protesters tied up blocks of downtown traffic for the better part of two days. Acting Police Chief Alex Fagan says he didn´t realize his department failed to substantiate the arrests. He says he´ll talk to the District Attorney Terence Hallinan and try to fix that.

Attorneys for the 2,200 people whose cases have yet to come to court say they´ll argue that the citations are legally flawed as vague and unsupported. One of those lawyers says the city should drop all the cases, because it´ll be too expensive to prosecute them.
