New UC President To Be Elected

Sponsored by:

The next president of the University of California has a tough job ahead –accommodating more students on less money.

Fallout from some high profile problems at the two UC nuclear weapons labs will also be on the agenda.

The new president should be named today by UC´s governing board of regents.

The UC system has nine campuses. A 10th campus is scheduled to open soon. UC serves about 170,000 students and is facing tough financial times.

The current leader, Richard Atkinson, said last year that he would step down this October. Since then, a nine-member search committee has been looking for a new president.
