Wildfire Burns 16 Structures In Carson City

Sponsored by:

It´s being called Carson City´s worst fire ever.

Four firefighters were injured, 16 structures were destroyed and about 550 other homes and businesses were threatened today by a wildfire burning on the west edge of the capital city.

Gusty winds pushed the out-of-control fire to between 2,000 and 5,000 acres. At one point the fire, which stretched for about four miles along Carson City´s western edge, was within half a mile of the governor´s mansion.

Winds died down overnight and temperatures dropped while humidity rose. That helped fire crews at least slow the fire´s progress. Some 900 people are on the line.

The latest count is nine homes and at least one business destroyed.

Fire officials say this morning´s light may produce changes in the acreage and the number of structures burned.
