Man Dies From Injuries After Accident Near Fairgrounds

A pedestrian seriously hurt last night after being struck by a vehicle on Stockton Road near the Fairgrounds has died of his injuries.

Emergency units responded just after 10 p.m to the entrance of the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Police report the 49 year-old Sonora man was crossing Stockton road and hit by a car driven by a 25 year-old Chico resident. The driver told police he didn´t see the man crossing the dark roadway.

The man was thrown onto the car before falling to the pavement. He was rushed to the Columbia airport by ambulance then airlifted to Doctor´s Medical Center in Modesto.

Sonora Police Chief Mace McIntosh told KVML news this monring the pedestrian died during emergency surgery.

Moments after that accident last night, Sonora police officers discovered another injured person down the embankment of Woods Creek, which runs parallel to Stockton Road at the fairgrounds.

Police say that person was intoxicated and had fallen off the bridge at Southgate Drive at the Fair entrance. That person was also transported to the airport to be flown out to a valley hospital.
