CHP Officers Injured During Pursuit

Two Sonora area California Highway Patrol officers were injured last night during a vehicle pursuit.

According to CHP reports this morning, the officers were assisting Stanislaus County Sheriffs deputies locate a Chevy Camero that had fled from a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle was located on Red Hills Road east of LaGrange Road around 8-30 last night by officer Scott Taylor and fellow officer Eli Dillon. The chase lead officers into the Red Hills Off Road Park.

At one point, the Camero driven by 37 year-old Ruben Silva of Empire, accelerated towards the CHP cruiser. The officers say the suspect steered his car directly at the CHP cruiser, causing a collision. The injured officers were able to get out of their patrol car got the suspect and two other people in the vehicle out at gun point.

The two passengers in Silva´s car were found not to have any connection with the incident. They were released to Stanislaus County deputies at the scene. Silva was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading arrest with reckless endangerment, felony child endangerment, driving with a suspended or revoted license and for $50,000 warrant for his arrest.

The two officers were treated at Sonora Regional Medical Center and later released with minor injures. Silva was not injured
