Tahoe Casino Scam Ends In Prison Time

A mother of two from Kansas as been sentenced to one to five years in prison for her role in the theft of $1.6 million from a Lake Tahoe casino.

28-year-old Michelle Lawrence was sentenced yesterday by Douglas District Judge Mike Gibbons on her guilty plea to grand theft.

The Topeka woman is the fourth person sent to prison in the scam orchestrated by her husband.

Authorities say Jason Lawrence used his position as a pit boss at Harvey´s casino to mark credit given to others as paid back when it wasn´t. The others then cashed in their chips.

Jason Lawrence was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison. 22-year-old Stephen Johnson of Dayton was sentenced to two to eight years.

Twenty-eight year old Glenn Bindley of Kansas was sentenced to up to three years.

One other defendant is to be sentenced next month.
