Six Wrecks Leave Six Injured

The California Highway Patrol had a busy Halloween weekend in the Mother Lode.

As many as six separate accidents resulted in injuries that required a trip to the hospital.

Thursday afternoon, 20-year-old Kristy Lynn Crawford went to Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital for minor injuries, after her Mazda RX-7 was hit from behind by a Peterbuilt Truck driven by 33-year-old Carl Sutton.

On Friday, 20-year-old Joseph Cunningham also went to Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital for minor injuries.

He claimed a deer ran in front of his vehicle, on Camanche Drive at the South Shore of Lake Camanche, according to the CHP.

He was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of DUI and was then booked into Calaveras County Jail.

A wreck Saturday afternoon on Sheep Ranch Road left a bicyclist seriously hurt.

56-year-old Karl Schneck was on his bike, and the CHP says he failed to ride on the right side of the roadway.

Schneck hit the left front fender, hood, and windshield of a station wagon driven by 57-year-old Eldon Giesinger.

Schneck suffered major facial injuries. Officials say he did have a helmet on.

Saturday evening, 50-year-old Jeffrey Hoffhines was on his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle when he lost control and hit a metal drain pipe.

It happened at Highway 49 and Highway 26 in the Mokelumne Hill area.

Hoffhines suffered a broken collar bone and three broken ribs, and was taken to Sutter Amador hospital for treatment.

Sunday morning, 56-year-old Gregory Parrish was westbound on Highway 108, west of Confidence, when he drove off an embankment, went off the road, and hit a tree and a rock.

He suffered a cut to the lip and was taken to Tuolumne General Hospital.

Parrish was later arrested for driving under the influence of prescription medications.

And around noon yesterday, a 60-year-old motorcyclist suffered major injuries after his ATV flipped over.

Larry Collins of Oakdale was driving on a trail, south of Fire Road N058 off Italian Bar Road, when he hit the brakes suddenly and flipped.

Collins suffered numerous fractures to his left leg, which was trapped under the ATV.

He was taken to Tuolumne General Hospital.
