CalCo Undersheriff Announces Retirement

Sponsored by:

Six months after being appointed Calaveras County undersheriff, Ron McFall has announced his retirement along with sheriff´s Capt. Steve Mathews.

McFall, 57, was appointed in June when Randy Grasmuck retired. Grasmuck, who was the undersheriff, had been filling in as acting sheriff while Sheriff Dennis Downum was in Iraq.

A 36-year law enforcement veteran, McFall came to Calaveras County in 1979 after working for the San Jose Police Department.

McFall´s career is marked by his leading role in the investigation into one of the biggest murder cases in California history, the Charles Ng and Leonard Lake torture-murders of Wilseyville.

The most interesting part of his job was when he first came to the county and was named the first narcotics enforcement officer in Calaveras County.
