“Big Box” Battle Raging In Bay Area, Too

Sponsored by:

The “big box” store battle is raging across all of California it seems…

Wal-Mart is pouring big bucks into a Contra Costa County ballot measure that would put restrictions on so-called “big-box” stores. If passed by voters, “Measure L” would limit how much floor space the huge stores could use to sell groceries.

Supporters say the ordinance will control growth and limit traffic problems. But Wal-Mart executives say its a direct attack on their business.

The world´s biggest retailer has already spent nearly $300,000 to try to defeat Measure L. The ordinance would regulate stores bigger than 90,000 square-feet in unincorporated parts of Contra Costa County.
