Free Gun Locks Available

Sponsored by:

Many people keep a firearm in their home to protect their family from intruders. But now there´s a way to help protect family members from accidental shooting.

Project Childsafe has provided local police and sheriff departments with hundreds of gun locks as a way of increasing safety free of charge.

Thanks to a federally-funded program, gun owners can get free gun locks from the Sonora Police and the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s departments.

Sonora Police Chief Duane Ellis says there is a limit on the number of free locks citizens can request… but it´s a flexible limit. Any resident can just come in and ask for one or two.

The chief says 1,400 locks were delivered just before Christmas, and almost 500 have been distributed so far.
