Donating Food Gets Easier

Sponsored by:

Calaveras County residents are again having their chance to fight hunger, thanks to county post offices and the Human Resources Council.

Non-perishable and high-protein items are best, say program coordinators, and post offices from Angels Camp to Valley Springs are helping out.

This is the fourth year that Calaveras County has participated in the nationwide effort, led by the U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Residents can leave their food donations by their mailboxes on Saturday.

But since so many folks have P.O. boxes, officials say the collection barrels will be around for about a week.

Numbers show the Calaveras County Food Bank served 600 families a month last year, and this year, that´s increased to 900 families a month.
