Public Comment Sought on Frog Habitat

Sponsored by:

The public now has an extra month to comment on a proposal to designate more than four million acres throughout the state as critical habitat for the threatened California red-legged frog.

The U-S Fish and Wildlife Service announced Monday the deadline was extended from to July 14th because of the interest expressed in the plan.

The red-legged frog is believed to have inspired a Gold Rush-era short story by Mark Twain, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”

If approved, it would be the largest critical habitat designation in California and one of the largest in the nation.
