Calaveras Supervisors Approve Conservation Measure For Orvis Ranch
San Andreas, CA — A move to keep more than 2000 acres of ranchland along Highway 4 undeveloped has been approved by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors.
A plan to allow the development rights to the Orvis Ranch to be purchased by the Trust For Public land was unanimously approved by the board yesterday.
The proposed purchase is designed to keep the ranch from being subdivided and developed as residential area as housing developments continue to move into the region.
The 130-year-old ranch is divided between Calaveras and Stanislaus Counties. Officials say the deal would cost about $3 million with about half of that coming from the state.
The remainder would be split between the federal government and the Great Valley center in Modesto.
