CHP To Impose Maximum Enforcement Period

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — The California Highway Patrol says fatalities over the Thanksgiving holiday were up statewide over last year.

Officials say driving under the influence, speeding and not wearing seatbelts can be blamed for the majority of highway deaths.

CHP officials are warning motorists that they will be imposing another maximum enforcement period over the Christmas holiday. That means up to 80% of all CHP officers will be on the road and planes will be observing from the air.

Commander Mike Ayala urges those celebrating the holidays to have a designated driver arranged in advance.

CHP will be working in connection with the Office of Traffic Safety, Alcoholic Beverage Control, Caltrans, and the Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as local law enforcement.

The enforcement period will run from December 16th through January 2nd.
