County Officials Get First Look At Inclusionary Ordinance

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The task force charged with putting together a proposed inclusionary ordinance for affordable housing in Tuolumne County has made its initial presentation to county officials.

Housing Affordability Task Force Chairman Jim O´Niel along with representatives of the California Coalition on Rural Housing went before the Board of Supervisors´ Planning Committee last night in the first of several public work sessions.

Committee Chairman Dick Pland says the ordinance is a long way from finalization. He says the proposal will be the topic of several more discussion sessions over the next few months.

After it goes through the planning committee it will then be reviewed by the four different planning commissions that cover the county. Members of the Jamestown, Columbia, Groveland and South County commissions will have a chance to make their comments and recommendations before the ordinance goes to the Board of Supervisors.

The ordinance would require developers to designate a portion of their projects as affordable housing based on the mean average income of county residents.

Developers oppose the idea saying that it puts the obligation of providing affordable housing squarely on their shoulders.

The next discussion is planned for January 5th.
