CHP On Lookout For Seatbelt Violators

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — CHP officers are out in force this weekend looking for drivers who aren´t wearing seatbelts.

The agency is implementing its “Statewide Traffic Action Response”, or “STAR” program through midnight Sunday.

A CHP report indicates that 56 people were killed on California roads last year. Of the 39 killed within CHP jurisdiction, 15 were unrestrained.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that over 92% of California residents wear seatbelts, giving the state one of the highest compliance rates in the country.

During the STAR enforcement period, CHP says 80% of its force will be on the road.

Officers will also be looking out for motorists who speed, and those driving under the influence.
