Plans For Resource Conservation District Move Forward

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Plans for a Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District are going forward after Tuesday´s election.

County voters approved Measure “L” Tuesday night by a 57% majority. Committee co-chair Ty Wivell says the next step is to appoint the nine-member board of directors.

The board will consist of eight representatives appointed by the board of supervisors, in addition to one appointed by the Sonora City Council.

Wivell says that process should take two to three months to complete. He says that once application forms are made available, property owners will be able to begin applying for funds.

The applications will then be prioritized before the grants are awarded. The Resource Conservation District, or R.C.D., allows property owners to apply for government grants for projects such as irrigation systems, erosion control and fire danger mitigation.

The resource grants come from available state and federal tax revenues. Before Tuesday´s election, Tuolumne was one of only three counties in the state without an R.C.D.
