Court Officials Warn Of Potential Scam

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Officials are warning the public of a scam that has been reported in several states including California.

Authorities say identity thieves are calling people to tell them they failed to show up for jury duty and there will be a warrant issued for their arrest.

When the recipient of the call says they were never summoned, the caller then begins to solicit personal information for “verification” purposes. Such information may involve social security numbers, credit card information and date of birth.

Officials with the Calaveras and Amador County Superior Courts are informing the public that trial courts never contact potential jurors by phone and never solicit such personal information.

Anyone believing to have received such a call is asked to contact local law enforcement.
