Investigators Determine Cause Of Greeley Hill Fire

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — CDF investigators have determined that an 80-acre vegetation fire near Greeley Hill in Northern Mariposa County was caused by a vehicle parking on dry grass.

Investigators believe that a vehicle sparked the blaze on top of a retention dam at about 1:00 Saturday afternoon near Converse Valley and Vista Roads about 60 miles east of Modesto.

The fire prompted the evacuation of several area residents in the Smith Station Road area. Crews brought the blaze under control at about 6:00 this morning.

A total of 29 engines, two water tenders, three helicopters and nearly 300 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

Investigators say no structures were affected and there were no reported injuries.
