Money Freed Up For Roads In County Budget

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Close to $240,000 has been made available in the Tuolumne County Air Pollution Control District´s budget due to the recent Board of Supervisors adoption of the Motor Vehicle Registration fee of $4 per vehicle.

The Board approved the 2005/2006 fiscal year budget but not without several questions for Air Pollution director Gary Caseri.

Supervisors asked for more clarity as to what the extra money could be used for, and Caseri says it can be used for retrofitting or re-powering diesel engines, as well as any other project to reduce mobile source emissions.

He believes the revenue will help the County because money for Air Quality Control will no longer be taken from the General Fund, freeing up money for fixing roads. The Board approved the new budget with a 3 to 1 vote in a marathon session yesterday.
