Supervisors To Consider Measure To Increase Sales Tax

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors will take up the issue of raising the county´s sales tax by one-quarter percent to fund fire services.

The board will consider whether to put the measure on next June´s ballot. The tax would be enacted in order to close a budget shortfall of more than $700,000 in the county´s fire budget.

If passed, the sales tax countywide would increase to 7.5%, and the tax in Sonora to 8%.

In other business, the Supervisors will also consider the granting of a zoning change to allow the construction of a new cell phone and satellite tower in Jamestown.

The board meets tomorrow morning at 9:00 in the board chambers on South Green Street in Sonora.
