City Council To Address Lowes Decision

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will meet tomorrow to reconsider an appeal to an earlier planning commission decision to support a proposed Lowes Home Improvement Center.

The decision was put off after a meeting last week where more than 100 people attended. The project was approved by the Planning Commission in June, but was appealed by the organization Citizens For Responsible growth, as well as the group Voters Choice and a local business owner.

Opponents of the project are pushing for full environmental and economic impact reports.

Developer California Gold says the store would provide jobs and an additional shopping option for the city.

Those opposed fear increased traffic and a negative impact on smaller, locally owned businesses.

The meeting gets underway at 9:00 tomorrow morning at city hall.
